It is a vegetable of hot climate and snow is very harmful to it. It can be produced in any type of soil but sandy soil is the most suitable with pH between 6-7. Irrigation is neccessary weekly in summer.

Sowing is done from mid February to first week of March. For spring crop sowing is done in July-August.

Manure and Fertilizers

Use 30 tons of decomposed fertilizer, 400 kg Calcium Ammonium Nitrate or 200 kg Urea, 300 kg SuperPhosphate and 100 kg Murate of Potash per hectare.
