Tomato is a warm season crop, thus cannot bear cold climate. Cultivation can be done successfully from 12 șC to 26 șC. Tomato grows best in well drained sandy loams with pH between 5.5-6.8.

For the preparation of nursery in one-hectare land 350 to 400 gram seed should be sown. When the saplings are 15 cm long, they are transplanted to 65 cm wide seedbeds. In case of hybrid varieties 200 gram of seed per hectare should be sown.

Irrigation

The first irrigation should be done soon after the planting of saplings. Later in summer irrigation should be done in every 4-10 days to keep the soil wet.
